Cytokeratin17 also known as KRT17 is a type I cytokeratin. KRT17 is found in nail beds,hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and other epidermal appendages. Mutations inKRT17 lead to Jackson-Lawler type pachyonychia congenita and steatocystomamultiplex. KRT17 takes part in the formation and maintenance of a variety ofskin appendages, particularly in determining shape and orientation of hair. KRT17also modulates the function of TNF-alpha in the precise context of haircycling. Moreover, KRT17 regulates protein synthesis and epithelial cell growthall through binding to the adapter protein SFN and by stimulating Akt/mTORpathway.
KRT17 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single,non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 455 amino acids (1-432 a.a) andhaving a molecular mass of 50.5kDa.KRT17 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus& purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

May be a marker of basal cell differentiation in complex epithelia and therefore indicative of a certain type of epithelial "stem cells".
