バックグラウンド: | This gene encodes a member of the early B-cell factor (EBF) family of DNA binding transcription factors. EBF proteins are involved in B-cell differentiation, bone development and neurogenesis, and may also function as tumor suppressors. The encoded protein inhibits cell survival through the regulation of genes involved in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, and aberrant methylation or deletion of this gene may play a role in multiple malignancies including glioblastoma multiforme and gastric carcinoma. |
UniProt Protein Function: | EBF3: Transcriptional activator which recognizes variations of the palindromic sequence 5'-ATTCCCNNGGGAATT-3'. Belongs to the COE family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:DNA-binding; Transcription factor Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q26.3 Cellular Component: nucleus Molecular Function:protein dimerization activity; DNA binding; metal ion binding Biological Process: transcription, DNA-dependent; positive regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; multicellular organismal development |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a membrane protein that mediates cell adhesion between trophoblastic cells and the epithelial cells of the endometrium. The encoded protein participates in cell signalling during embryo implantation, and may also be involved in cancer formation. This gene is located near several other closely related genes on chromosome X. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2012] |
