バックグラウンド: | MaxiK channels are large conductance, voltage and calcium-sensitive potassium channels which are fundamental to the control of smooth muscle tone and neuronal excitability. MaxiK channels can be formed by 2 subunits: the pore-forming α subunit and the modulatory β subunit. The protein encoded by this gene is an auxiliary β subunit which decreases the activation time of MaxiK α subunit currents. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants of this gene. Additional variants are discussed in the literature, but their full length nature has not been described. |
シノニム: | potassium large conductance calcium-activated channel, subfamily M, β member 2 |
UniProt Protein Function: | KCNMB2: Regulatory subunit of the calcium activated potassium KCNMA1 (maxiK) channel. Modulates the calcium sensitivity and gating kinetics of KCNMA1, thereby contributing to KCNMA1 channel diversity. Acts as a negative regulator that confers rapid and complete inactivation of KCNMA1 channel complex. May participate in KCNMA1 inactivation in chromaffin cells of the adrenal gland or in hippocampal CA1 neurons. Belongs to the KCNMB (TC 8.A.14.1) family. KCNMB2 subfamily. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q26.32 Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane; voltage-gated potassium channel complex Molecular Function:calcium-activated potassium channel activity; ion channel inhibitor activity; potassium channel regulator activity Biological Process: detection of calcium ion; generation of action potential; potassium ion transport; regulation of action potential; regulation of vasoconstriction; synaptic transmission |
