バックグラウンド: | Carnitine acetylase is specific for short chain fatty acid,. Carnitine acetylase seems to affect the flux through the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. It may be involved as well in the transport of acetyl-CoA into mitochondria. |
シノニム: | Carnitine O-acetyltransferase (Carnitine acetylase) (EC 2.3.1.7) (Carnitine acetyltransferase) (CAT) (CrAT), CRAT, CAT1 |
UniProt Protein Function: | CRAT: Carnitine acetylase is specific for short chain fatty acids. Carnitine acetylase seems to affect the flux through the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. It may be involved as well in the transport of acetyl-CoA into mitochondria. Belongs to the carnitine/choline acetyltransferase family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:EC 2.3.1.7; Mitochondrial; Acetyltransferase Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 9q34.1 Cellular Component: peroxisomal matrix; mitochondrion; endoplasmic reticulum; mitochondrial inner membrane; peroxisome Molecular Function:carnitine O-acetyltransferase activity; receptor binding Biological Process: carnitine metabolic process, CoA-linked; fatty acid beta-oxidation using acyl-CoA oxidase; transport; cellular lipid metabolic process |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes carnitine acetyltransferase (CRAT), which is a key enzyme in the metabolic pathway in mitochondria, peroxisomes and endoplasmic reticulum. CRAT catalyzes the reversible transfer of acyl groups from an acyl-CoA thioester to carnitine and regulates the ratio of acylCoA/CoA in the subcellular compartments. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2012] |
